Louise Helton is the State Director for Communities In Schools
of Nevada. Communities In Schools has recently expanded to become a statewide
organization having opened a second regional affiliate in Elko to serve the northeast portion of the state. The focus of all services coordinated through CIS is toward at-risk and homeless children. By providing medical and dental services, food and clothing the program helps children stay in school and
prepare for life. The statewide organization currently serves over a dozen schools
and plans to add six more next school year in Clark, Elko, and White Pine counties as well as the Colorado River Region including
Bullhead City, Arizona.

On Wheels program which was named one of the top twenty-five most innovative programs in the nation by Harvard and the Ford
Foundation. A former Mrs. Nevada, Louise has successfully advocated
for legislative reforms including displaced homemaker legislation, mandatory kindergarten, the Safe Haven bill and water fluoridation. Her legislative efforts also help create the Las Vegas Centennial license plate that
has raised over $2 million for historic preservation and education on local history.

for her work in education and child welfare. To date her proudest
